Welcome

We are the owners of a 1.4 hectare block of land on the Central Coast.

The site includes areas of rainforest which have been badly overrun by non-native plants. Our project is to restore the rainforest and to build an environmentally sustainable house on the site.

This blog records the bush regeneration work we are undertaking and the progress on building the house.

About the site

Our block of land is located close to Gosford on the Central Coast.  It occupies 1.4 hectares in a roughly rectangular shape with the long axis running north-south.  The site is on the eastern side of a ridge and the gradient of the slope is between 15 and 20%.

The site is bounded on its north edge by a gully with a creek that runs after heavy rains.  This area of the site is rainforest; with trees such as Pencil Cedar, Maiden's Blush, Red Ash, Bangalow Palm, tree ferns and Native Tamarind.  This area of the site was badly infested with Lantana when we first started work on it in spring 2008.

The south edge of the site is bounded by another gully and the vegetation here is Moist Sclerophyll Forest; with trees such as Sydney Blue Gum, Turpentine and Cheese Tree.

The site as a whole has been invaded by a range of non-native weeds (including Ehrharta, Bidens, Privet, Paddy's lucerne, Rhodes grass, Tobacco weed)  and we spend a lot of our weekends weeding.
